Usage
To profit from a better user experience of mailing-lists, you should be aware of some good practices.
Netiquette
Respect netiquette, some Wikipedia article about. It’s including, but not limited to, RFC 1855.
Respect
Respect others, no verbal aggression, no threats. Free speech means you can express ideas. An aggressive behavior, insults, threats, aren’t ideas, therefore this isn’t legitimate to being considered “free speech”. You can’t be “free to injure/aggress”, because freedom to harm someone else freedom (considering our weeknesses, our fragilities, nobody is perfectly neutral and resistant emotionally, we’re still humans) is not a freedom but a power. And power (as phallocrat, white, verbose person, etc.) isn’t legitimate in these places of free expression and share, strong values to La Quadrature du Net.
For expression of ideas, even if you’re free to express retrograd/absurd/stupid/shocking ideas (sexism, racism, homobobia/transphobia, etc.), others are free to reply, violently if needed (figurativly, i.e. having 30 replys from 15 militants, and if you don’t listen and don’t bother what people says to you, and you persist to blindly aggress/reduce others for what they are instead of what they do, therefore others are free to stop listening to you (client-side filtering, bad reputation, blacklisting, or even forced-unsubscribing/censorphip in most rare and extreme cases). Cf. this fabous xkcd comic.
Technical Hints
Here we add various technical hints for more used and popular (free) mail clients (MUA, Mail User-Agent): Thunderbird, Evolution, ClawsMail, etc. Don’t hesitate to add other sections ;)
