• Advisor to Dr Joe Borg, Minister of Foreign Affairs
• Inter-Ministerial Coordinator for EU Matters in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
• Member of the Council of the Confederation of Malta Trade Unions and later member of the Executive Committee of the Union of Bankers
• As an MEP he has taken on the responsibility of rapporteur on two highly sensitive reports, namely the European Fisheries Fund and Slovakia's adoption of the single currency
