- Represented the Social Movement for Solidarity Electoral Action (AWS) and Poland in the PPE-DE (1999)
- MEP of the Year for 2006 in the scientific research and technology category (awarded by the prestigious monthly 'Parliament Magazine')
- In 2007, received from the hands of the President of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering, a statuette of a dove - an award created to mark the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
